TIMEFRAME: since 2025
The Nibelungen family, led by director Gunther, has settled comfortably at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, cherishing its centuries-old cultural heritage. Every evening, star soprano Kriemhild dazzles in a masterwork by Richard Wagner, and afterward, the cafeteria often erupts in celebration. However, finances are dire: Managing Director Hagen fears the upcoming seasons may be at risk, as the government plans to cut funding for this conservative house. One thing is clear: a thorough shake-up is needed—and innovation is the key! Innovation!? Unfortunately, the Germanic troupe is utterly unprepared for it. Then, a message arrives from the Berlin Senate: an underground free-scene troupe is to take matters into their own hands. Their name says it all: “Die wilde Brünhilde” aims to tear the place down to the studs and rebuild it from the ground up. Now, only a miracle can save the family’s honor and the institution itself: the greatest hero of Germanic lore, Siegfried! But first, he must be summoned back from the dead…
DURATION: 2h / one intermission
*Directed by tutti d*amore
A production of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in cooperation with tutti d*amore.
“the wonderful production ‘Ab in den Ring!’: witty, bold, spectacular, and post-historical. Unfortunately also timely. [...] At the end, thunderous applause for everyone and a carnival-like total spectacle that absolutely deserves to remain in the repertoire.”
– R.H. Dippel, nmz
“Perfect material […] for tutti d*amore. The Berlin music theatre collective has been ingeniously overturning the operetta world since 2019, making the old works distinctly their own and delighting in tearing down the boundaries between seriousness and entertainment.”
– Georg Kasch, Berliner Morgenpost
“That such humor in an opera house for everyone in this highly differentiated society, with its heterogeneous cultural concepts, is still possible is surprising and delightful. [...] It gives courage to see what a still somewhat stable operatic institution like the Deutsche Oper can achieve in times of crisis: unleashing the creativity of a free opera troupe.”
– Matthias Nöther, Die Deutsche Bühne
